GEODETIC SURVEY MARK ERECTED

——————

A Fundamental Bench mark monument has been erected at the South corner of Main Street and Fourth Avenue, on the property upon which the new post office and administration building is to be erected, by the Geodetic Survey of Canada, a branch of the Federal Department of the Interior.

This permanent pier is one of a series being placed in the Province of Alberta this year and is intended to serve as a quick reference point for Federal, Provincial, Municipal and private surveyors whenever accurate level datum is required. The exact altitude of the bronze tablet placed on top of the pier is being determined by a connected survey with the precise level system of the Geodetic Survey.

The pier rests on a massive concrete base seven feet below the ground surface, this depth being necessary to avoid movement by frost. The concrete base also contains a tablet which may be reached by means of a hollow tile placed vertically over it, should time or accident deface the upper mark.

The building of this permanent reference point and the site chosen has the approval of the Mayor and Town Council.
