SAID THAT HERD IS BECOMING TAMER

———

According to Superintendent W. E. D. McTaggart of the Buffalo Park, no less than two hundred and fifty buffalo calves have arrived on the scene this year, which has increased the number of animals in the reserve to almost twelve hundred. The increase in the number of calves over last year is estimated at twenty-five per cent, while the death rate has been remarkably low. During 1911 the death rate as announced by Commissioner Douglas was one quarter of one per cent, which has been reduced this year on account of a better climatic season.

All of the buffalo are in a very healthy condition and are becoming exceedingly tame. In fact, on driving through the park they refuse to move from the trail and make it necessary to drive around them. It is also reported that several have shown their ugly nature of late which is doubtlessly due to the fact that the animals are now mating.
