PARK COMMISSIONER IS DISMISSED; OFFENSIVE PARTIZANSHIP IS THE CHARGE LAID

Howard Douglas Dismissed by New Government After Long Service

SUCCESSOR HAS YET TO BE APPOINTED

Had Buffalo Park Under His Supervision For The Past Four Years

———

After a service with the government, extending since 1897, one year after the recent administration at Ottawa went into power, Mr. Howard Douglas, commissioner for Dominion Parks, has been relieved of his position.

The grounds given for his dismissal are founded on offensive partizanship, according to a report from Ottawa and his successor has not as yet been named, although it is thought that a Calgary man will receive the appointment.

Mr. Douglas has performed a service for the government of which he should be proud. In 1908, he arranged with the well known rancher, Michael Pablo of Montana, for the purchase of his entire herd of bison. Almost the entire number have since been brought to Canada and they are at present within the confines of the Wainwright park.

Previous to his appointment in 1908 to the position of commissioner of Dominion Parks, Mr. Douglas was superintedent of the buffalo park at Banff, where late Supt. Ellis of the Wainwright Park was under him. At the time of his dismissal, Mr. Douglas was planning another park west of Edmonton and along the line of the G. T. P. This park will be known as Jasper Park and will compare with the world famous Banff on the C. P. R.
