Buffalo Know as "Banff Bull" Shot Down as Result of Injuries

KILLED "SIR DONALD"

Head Will be Given to Mounted Police Authorities at Regina

The last buffalo born in Canada was killed in the park here last week, when Superintendent McTaggart on making his rounds discovered the animal badly gored and unable to move from his tracks where he had been left by one of the younger bulls.

The particular bull was known about the park as the "Banff Bull" from the fact that he was brought from that reserve after he killed "Sir Donald". He is therefore the last of Lord Strathcona’s herd at Winnipeg, which were taken from the park to Banff and in turn transferred here.

Sir Donald’s head was mounted shortly after he was killed at Banff, and from the fact that the horns were very uniform and the head a most beautiful one, the mounting was used by almost every city in Western Canada at the time of the Duke of Connaught’s tour last fall. The "Banff Bull", however, is none the less beautiful and will be mounted and sent to the Mounted Police at Regina. During his time he was one of the most ferrocious warriors and his head is battle scarred in many places. Superintendent McTaggart is of the opinion that just such a head would be appreciated by the Police at Regina..

The bones of the animal will be sent to Ottawa, where they will be mounted with the head of another animal for the Dominion Museum. Mr. McTaggart is at present awaiting instructions as to the shipment of the hide to the tanners.

According to the Park superintendent, it is not probable that any more animals will be killed for sometime.
