15 BUFFALO FOR LOCAL RESERVE

————

The last shipment of buffalo from the Conrad herd arrived here from Kalispiel, Montana, last Sunday night and were unloaded at the local chute the following day, under the supervision of Superintendent Ellis.

Fifteen animals made up the shipment, of which thirteen were yearlings, the other two being three years old. The entire number, contrary to former custom, were crated and placed singly in the car, to avoid any possible danger of injury to the animals. As a result of this precaution being taken, the animals came through in first class shape, none sustaining any injury.

This is the last number from the Conrad herd, contracted for by the dominion Government and practically cleans out the entire stock of this breed in Montana, leaving but fifty on the reservation.

Superintendent Ellis states that another carload lot is expected during the latter part of the month, from the Pablo Reservation. “At the present time,” said Mr. Ellis, “there are eight hundred and nine buffalo in the Park and with the shipment on Sunday, the number will be swelled to 824.”
