Canada’s Buffalo

————

Four Hundred Already Received and Three Hundred More Expected

————

During the progress of the debate on the Interior estimates in the Dominion House, Hon. Frank Oliver stated that 403 buffalo had been purchased for the western parks. The herd had cost $98, $135, or $200 a head delivered, plus $45 for transportation expenses. Ultimately, he said, the herds would be a source of revenue, buffalo skins being worth $200 or more. R.S. Lake of Qu'Appelle, put in a plea for part of the herd for a park in Saskatchewan.

Mr. Oliver said that there were a couple of park sites available in Saskatchewan, but that the government did not care to divide the herd till the whole is in possession. He explained that the government hopes to get 300 head more.

A park of four townships east of the Battle River, between the C. P. R. and the G. T. P., has been prepared for these buffalo. The entrance to the park is at Wainwright, Alberta.
