On the Training Fields _________image_________ “C” Squadron, Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) at Waincon ’70, assembled afront Centurion tanks. Farewell to the Centurion: a special field ceremony on June 13, 1970 retired the Centurion from active service in Canada. The parade was open to the public and conducted by the Lord Strathcona’s Horse Regiment of Calgary, inspection by Brigadier General Gordon D. Wotherspoon, Colonel Commandant of the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps. Centurions were first introduced to Canadian training fields during the Korean conflict and were virtually invulnerable to most other tanks in service.
