Excerpts from the Wainwright Warrior RCAF Reserve Squadron Exercises At Wainwright (Nov. 1951)… The Engineer duty Sapper on October 7th, noted laconically in his report, “at 1100 hrs. Mr. Allan Treffrey reported bombing taking place. Mr. Vrooman took over from there.:… The bombers were friendly aircraft. Number 418 Reserve Squadron, RCAF from Edmonton, was carrying out a weekend exercise. … visitors to Wainwright camp had been thrilled to find a big Mitchell Bomber sitting on the landing strip… under the watchful eyes of the crew and the Camp Orderly Sergeant. Children clambered up… L'il Abner Fans were pleased to find the Wolf Gal painted on her nose, with the name “Miss Wolf Gal"” painted underneath. … activity begain in 1950… RCAF to make use of a section of the training area… in the vicinity of the old Abattoir. A pylon was built… .straffing runs were made by Air Force planes using 50 calibre machine guns. Still later dummy tanks were erected and the area was fire guarded, as part of the ammunition being fired was tracer… this fall 418 Squadron are using rockets, and for the past few weeks the big silver Mitchell Bombers and yellow Harvards have been a familiar sight over Wainwright on Sundays. Brigade Reviewed By Gen Vokes Parade On May 28 (June 1952)… Regiments and units of the 25th Canadian Infantry Brigade Replacement Group paraded before the GOC Western Command… first visit by Major General C. Vokes, CB, CBE, DSO, CD to Camp Wainwright. Under the direction of RSM M.J. Fallon, Garrison Sergeant Major, the parade began to form up on the parade square at 9:30 and by 10:00 was ready and handed over to Major T.M. Mac Donald, DC, Brigade Major. The parade was formed up in hollow square formation with Brigade Headquarters on the extreme right, followed in succession by the 59th Canadian Independent Field Squadron RCE, the 3rd Bn R22eR, the NCO School and Static Units, and on the left end of the parade square, the 56th Transport Company RCASC, who had arrived in Camp Wainwright only a day or two before. Occupying a central place on the square was the PPCLI Band. Major MacDonald handed the parade over to Brigadier J.E.C.
